Our Engineering Management Programme is designed to give you the right platform to develop your career in the way you want. So we'll make sure that you have sound technical skills and an understanding of the operational side of transport from A-Z. Arriva Graduates

This programme offers the chance to build a thorough understanding of our operations, solid commercial skills and essential practical experience. You'll do this through a combination of practical challenges, off-the-job training and formal qualifications. You'll also build useful contacts throughout the programme, learning all about our processes and becoming more influential within the business.

Placement

The Engineering Management Programme consists of a series of placements which are designed to give you a close understanding of how our organisation works and exactly what it takes to deliver. You start with a nine-month placement in your chosen Arriva business, where you'll enjoy both practical challenges and opportunities to learn more formally.

The Programme will give you complete exposure to the technical side of our business, while at the same time giving you a chance to develop valuable 'softer' skills. You'll learn efficient workshop management and become an expert in vehicle construction; working to regulations and legislative requirements. You'll also build a broader understanding of transport and the environmental issues that surround it.

From here, we'll look to broaden your skills even further. You'll get involved in people management, and learn about Health and Safety, Risk Management, Purchasing, Procurement and Finance. You will also gain an insight into other areas of our operations, so that you really do start to see just how the whole operation fits together.

Ultimately, this programme is about making sure that you are equipped with the skills to help our business deliver. The challenges you face here will be wide-ranging. But we're confident that the breadth of training, the technical expertise and the management skills you develop will be more than enough to help you meet them.

Career Path

The aim of our Engineering Management Programme is to develop people who can make a major contribution to driving our business forward. We therefore don't want managers who can't understand the nuts and bolts of the operation. Nor do we want technical experts who can't communicate strategic issues. We want individuals with the presence, influence, knowledge and skills to help shape passenger transport in the future.

Your career here could take you in any number of directions. From our perspective, the programme needs to give you a well-rounded, complete skill-set so that you aren't pigeon-holed in the future. Indeed, as your career develops, you'll have plenty of opportunities to tackle different challenges, either moving up or across our businesses.

Eligibility Criteria

People who apply for our programmes in the UK must have, or anticipate gaining, at least a 2:2 degree which must be in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

Our programmes are closely tailored to each of our businesses giving you exposure to all areas. For this reason candidates should hold or expect to hold a drivers licence which is valid for the UK prior to programme commencement.

On whichever of the two programmes you join us, you'll need the flexibility to move within your particular part of the business. It is also important you're certain that the challenging and complex transport sector is for you.
